Livia in awe. Livia’s goal is to do and try as much as she can in the industry. Within the next six to eight years, she’d like to be skilled in the process of film editing. One day, Livia would like to see herself attending the Oscars and having a film that she was a part of in every theater. While fame would be nice, she’s more concerned with creating the best quality and working alongside other artistic people. Currently, her comfortable medium is drawing with charcoal or graphite. Livia also works with sculpture and editing. Many of the mediums she’s tried she’s liked, but more of side projects and not a main form of income. Another road Livia would like to pursue would be an art therapist.
One way to really examine growth is through the acknowledgement and awards when submitting art. Between 2018-2022 I moved up the line from honorable mention and silvers, to gold and eventually an American Vision award. In 2020, I was asked to show a gold piece, titled “Smile”, which won in Minnesota to then be shown in New York at a Scholastic gallery showing. Other than awards at Scholastic, I was honored to be asked to show work at pottery shows for a piece I did called “Snail’s heart” in 2021 and 2022. When I was awarded the American Vision Award in 2022, I was invited to Carnegie Hall in New York. It was a wonderful opportunity and it gave me the opportunity to meet other artists, as well as tour the city and view art galleries. Many of the art from that year was used again in my portfolio to submit to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Not only did I get into my dream college, I got a lot of scholarships including a MCAD Laptop Scholarship, National Scholastic Art Award, Target Product Design Scholarship, MCAD Trustee Scholarship,a Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford loan, and Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.
Through art and art history courses in high school and college, I have learned new techniques, mediums, and culture. I learned how to clearly express, communicate, and view myself as well as my work. More importantly, I’ve learned how to ask new questions. When I was younger, I was so afraid to color outside the lines. Now after years of failure and success, I’m a completely different person. I realized, later on from guidance of others, that art isn’t about perfection. Art, for me, is about going along with whatever happens. Once I figured this out, I started winning awards and gaining a new confidence in myself.
